Strengthening Public Discourse Through Education
The Common Ground Project is an educational initiative focused on civic dialogue, media literacy, and public discourse education for young people.
We work with students, educators, and institutional partners to develop critical thinking, responsible communication, and the ability to engage constructively across differences — skills that are increasingly essential in today’s polarized public sphere.

Our Mission & Story
Our mission is to improve the quality of public discourse by equipping the next generation with the skills to think critically, communicate ethically, and engage thoughtfully in civic life.
The project was founded in response to a visible shift in public conversation: increased polarization, fragmented media ecosystems, and growing mistrust between social groups.
While public debate has become louder and faster, opportunities to learn how to disagree well, analyze narratives, and recognize manipulation remain limited, especially in formal education.
The Common Ground Project addresses this gap through education that treats discourse itself as a civic skill.
Who This Project Is For

Why This Work Matters Now
Public discourse shapes how societies understand problems, assign responsibility, and imagine solutions.

Today, young people encounter:
- algorithm-driven media environments,
- emotionally charged political narratives,
- misinformation and strategic framing,
- and pressure to take positions before understanding complexity.
Without tools to navigate this landscape, polarization deepens and trust erodes.
By strengthening civic dialogue and media literacy, we aim to support healthier democratic participation and greater social cohesion over the long term.
Alignment with SDG 4: Quality Education

The Common Ground Project aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 4, contributing to inclusive and equitable education by advancing:
